Grupo SURA, among the best evaluated in the Merco ranking of Governance and Responsibility

With a score of 9,174 on a maximum score of 10,000, Grupo SURA ranked fourth in the ranking of the most responsible companies with the best corporate governance, which was released on March 19 by the Merco Colombia consultancy, that is, an advance of three positions versus the measurement of a year ago.

It is also highlighted that Grupo Nutresa and Bancolombia, companies that are part of the investment portfolio of Grupo SURA, ranked first and second in this edition of the ladder.

This result encourages us to continue evolving our Ethics and Corporate Governance System and to strengthen good practices that support the decisions and actions of the more than 29 thousand employees of the Companies of the SURA Business Group, in Colombia and Latin America, "commented Juan Luis Múnera, Vice President of Corporate Legal Affairs of Grupo SURA.

The Merco Colombia study is the result of consulting different sources of information, evaluations of the merits of objective indicators, as well as the opinion of 4,679 respondents of interest groups such as financial analysts, business executives, state officials and economic journalists.

In this sense, the Company is among the companies with the best perception among financial analysts, third place, and among experts in social responsibility it occupies fifth place. SURA also ranks first among the insurance companies that are part of the general ranking of 100 companies.

 

Advances in corporate governance

It should be noted that in the last year more than 27 thousand employees of the SURA Business Group were trained in 10 Latin American countries through a virtual course that addressed relevant aspects associated with the Ethics and Corporate Governance System, such as: business practices and competence, conflicts of interest, personal investments, Ethics Line, compliance with standards and commitments, among others.

As part of the evolution of the Ethics and Corporate Governance System, in 2019 we continue working on the identification of more demanding and innovative practices that adjust to corporate dynamics and that have a favorable impact on business management.

 

Renewed social commitment

In terms of corporate responsibility, the SURA Business Group leads and participates in the development of social investment initiatives with the destination and management of financial and non-financial resources, in a voluntary, structured and systematic manner, aimed at projects and programs that generate well-being and better living conditions.

Investment in social development projects in Latin America benefited about 2.6 million people, 1,544 organizations during 2018 and added COP 35,257 million (USD 11.92 million), of which 59% were channeled through the SURA Foundation, established in Colombia, Mexico and Chile

Likewise, of these resources, 43% were directed to initiatives with direct positive impact on communities, 27% on donations and 30% on commercial initiatives with social impact of the Companies.
